Dr. Esteban Peralta is a cataract and refractive surgeon dedicated to helping patients reduce their dependence on glasses and achieve greater visual freedom through advanced vision correction surgery. He is committed to delivering personalized care using the latest innovations in ophthalmic surgery.

Dr. Peralta graduated from Duke University and the University of Utah School of Medicine. He completed his ophthalmology residency at the Duke Eye Center, one of the nation’s top ophthalmology programs, where he quickly developed a reputation as a skilled surgeon. His clinical interests span cataract surgery, laser vision correction, and the development of emerging technologies that elevate surgical precision and patient outcomes.

He has authored more than 20 peer-reviewed publications and has presented his work at national meetings. His writing has been featured in Ophthalmology Times and Cataract & Refractive Surgery Today, and AAO EyeNet. He serves as Section Editor for the Digital Journal of Case Reports in Ophthalmology, where he oversees the review and publication of novel clinical insights and complex surgical cases in Refractive Surgery. He is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. He has been recognized with multiple honors including the ASCRS Resident Excellence Award.

Dr. Peralta’s global ophthalmology work has spanned multiple continents, including volunteering with the Himalayan Cataract Project in Ethiopia. His work training local providers in teleophthalmology in Nepal has helped build a sustainable network for remote diagnosis and referral in resource-limited settings. Stateside, he has provided high-quality eye care to the Navajo Nation. 

Outside of medicine, Dr. Peralta enjoys spending time with his family, hiking, and mountain biking. He brings the same precision and curiosity from these pursuits into his surgical practice.

  • Dr. Peralta earned his Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from the University of Utah School of Medicine.

  • He completed his ophthalmology residency at the Duke Eye Center, consistently ranked as one of the nation’s top 10 ophthalmology programs.

  • Dr. Peralta was selected for a highly competitive advanced cataract and refractive surgery fellowship at the Eye Institute of West Florida, mentored by world-renowned surgeons Dr. Robert Weinstock and Dr. Neel Desai.

  • During residency, Dr. Peralta performed over 350 cataract surgeries as primary surgeon. He will complete over 1400 cataract surgeries this year alone!

  • Yes! He has delivered ophthalmic care in the Navajo Nation, trained providers in Nepal, and participated in high-volume cataract surgery outreach in Ethiopia with the Himalayan Cataract Project.

  • Dr. Peralta is fluent in both English and Spanish.

  • Dr. Peralta loves being outside! In the summer, you can find him hiking or mountain biking. In the winter, he enjoys snowboarding and campfires. He also likes to dabble with playing the harmonica in his spare time.
